Hoop Dogeball

                                          Hoop Dodgeball

Hoop dodgeball is very fun.  This is my favorite thing to play in Gym.  Here are the rules to play you have to try to make a dodgeball in the hoop.  You have to try not to get hit or you are out.  But if you get hit in the face the other person is out and you stay in.  There is a line in the middle of the gym the balls are on that line. When coach says go you run to the line and pick up a ball and throw it at someone on the other team.  The people with the most points win.

In our classroom we got to watch a movie. It was a cute movie called Shiloh. It's about a owner who has all these's dogs and he is training them to hunt animals down. But this cute little dog doesn't understand his command so he runs away and a boy finds the dog.  In the end the boy gets to keep the dog.  We got to wear our pj's to school. And we got to have brownies. That day I felt happy.

                             Fiction Story

This year in Mrs.Depa's class were writing fiction stories, mine is called #SELFIE. My book is about a girl and her younger sister and they moved to a small town with a brand new high school .They are both teenagers and they don't really get along, the older sister has a problem...she cant stop taking selfies.  Her name is Wendy and the younger sister gets mad at her because of her selfies. So they decide to go there own ways. During there first day of school the sisters still don't get along and they both decide that it was best if they stand at least 10 feet away from each other. During the middle of the first semester the teacher caught Wendy taking a selfie and sends her to a 5 hour detention.  She also takes her phone away. In detention Wendy pays no attention to anyone and falls asleep right away... When she wakes up she looks around and everyone was gone including for the teacher. So she tries to get out but the door was locked and she found the teacher walking to the door with two other people. When the teacher was opening the door she quickly went back to her seat. The first thing that she saw was her sister and some other girl. Her sister said nothing to her and sat as far away as she could. Then the older sister said hi to the new girl and the new girl said #sup. You can already tell that they are going to be the bestest  friends.

Field Day Teams

Field day teams

One bright and sunny day on April, 20th we had gym. A week ago Coach Stone said that she was going to pick field day captains the next time you are here. I waited for about a week, until coach stone finally picked captains. First she picked the girl runner up captains and that was Andee. Next, she picked the boy runner up captain and that was Josh number 1. Next, coach stone said "The moment we have all been waiting for, the girl captains is Megan."We all clapped and then coach stone said, "now for the boy captain," and that was me. Finally,we picked teams.  First, I picked Spencer, then Josh number 2, then Kyle and Jonny, and all the rest of my team. We played hoop dodgeball and if you saw our team your mouth would drop to the floor. My team was the first to score and Spencer scored the basket. Near the end the score was 6-6 and it was the last round, I was the last one in. I had all the dodge balls and they had none, I went up to the basketball hoop and missed the first shot. Luckily Orlando missed the ball I had another chance. I went back up to the hoop, I fired the ball the hoop was made and we won. We all said GG (good game) and we went back to class.

Field O'rama

On June 3rd, we get to do something called field day. It's where you get to do a lot of activities like jump rope, tug of war, etc. But it is mostly fun because you get to do a lot of activities. It lasts for 6 hours from 10:30 to 2:00.  It's very fun and enjoyable. But there's a catch...its only for elementary school kids so middle schoolers this may not be for you. If you are in elementary school you should stay and read the rest so you get a good idea of whats going on. On field day there are 2 teams selected by the gym teacher a girl and a boy caption they lead the team. They get to chose the people in tug o war and lots of other things. Thats pretty much the basics of field day. Have a great day!

Party Time

One day in Mrs. Depa's room we  had a party.  We had a party for being good.  We had brought our blankets, pillows, and some brought sleeping bags.  Some people wore there pjs.  We all watched a movie called Shiloh.  We all  had 2 brownies.  Some people cried because the movie was sad.  After the movie was done/over it was a regular day.  We all got to keep our pjs on for the rest of the day. Then it was time to go home.  I had to change because we were going out to eat.

Favorite Subject

My favorite subject is reading. I like reading because there is so many funny and creative books. But if I were to pick my favorite author it would be Dav Pilkey. He makes such great books but the pictures are the best. The flip-o-rama ones are the best. He always misspells words on purpose which is funny. But besides Dav Pilkey there is still a lot of stuff to talk about like... fiction or non-fiction stories, graphic novels, poems and many more. The best one out of all of the them would probably be graphic novels because that is what Dav Pilkey makes and his books are amazing.

The secret award

One day at 1:00 we all were taking a bathroom brake before we went down to the gym for awards.  I thought I was not going to get an award but I was wrong.  Once we were all done we went down to the gym.  I was nervous that I was going to maybe get an award and my mom not be there. We sat in the 4th row waiting for Ms. Little's group to be called up.  First it was Ms.Scheidt, then Mrs.Habas, and then Mrs.Depa. Mrs.Patton called up Kara and I was very excited. She said the award is for great work on my  amazing how to story. I was so happy. But I was also upset that my mom was not there. So I went home and I told my mom and she was so happy.

May 15, 2014 was a fun day but, it was also sad. On that day was the last practice before we had the girls on the run race, which was a 5k. That day we had a fun day because we got to make tutu's. We  mad tutu's to represent Lake Prairie. There was all kinds of colors like: pink, blue, purple, white, light purple, dark blue, dark pink, orange and yellow. The colors I used were dark pink, blue, white and purple. After everyone finished we put them on and ate a brownie. On the race day everyone wore there tutu's. It was funny because people from a different town were wearing tutu's too.

Buckley's Schoolhouse adventures

What they learned

Kids in grades 1-8 learned different things. Like they called math -arithmetics, they also called spelling-orthography, and they also studied manners. Also girls didn't go to college.    Although, if only they were lucky, they would only go to two years of high school.

What they had

The schools in the 1916, were very different from ours today. They had desks bolted to the floor so they couldn't move them. If they were to brake any rules they would not clip down, they would put their nose on the chalkboard. They also used chalk boards instead of smart boards. There was only one room.  It was grades 1-8.  They had 1 hour recess in grades 1-8. They sat in rows arranged in grade level. If they needed to go to the bathrooms they had 2 outhouses that seated 3 people.

This is an example of a schoolhouse in 1910.

Teachers

Teachers had different rights than our teachers. Teachers that were girls couldn't get married, but teachers that were boys could get married but the entire town would have to agree with his bride. The teacher was the nurse and the principal, and the music teacher only visited them once a week. Teachers were only paid $3.50 a week. And girl teachers couldn't were bloomers.

Buckley Adventures in the 1910's Farm!

Bank Barn

The bank barn is a really important place to the  farm. The barn was built on a bank, which is a hill. So that means there are 2 floors. The animals were kept on the bottom floor, so they can sleep at night. Everyday their cats would wonder around and catch mice, that was the cats big job.  The animals had a ramp going into the second floor. The animals would never go on the top floor they weren't allowed by the hay and straw. It was stored up on that floor.

Hay And Straw
In the background you can see the hay piled up.
The 1910 farm Bank Barn stored hay and straw for the animals. The straw was bedding for the animals. The straw was the leftover wheat that you can't eat.  The hay was yummy food for the animals. The hay was made out of grass.

The Kitchen

The kitchen was for women to cook. They use huge pots to cook. They had a wood burning stove. The building only had the kitchen in it. They kept their supplies in random tin contains. They used tin to keep the moisture out. You had to open the containers to check to see what was in it.

Butcher
Have you ever wondered about butchering in 1910? Well don't worry anymore.   The butcher must gather all the meat for the big meal. That starts at 1:00 everyday. But breakfast was really small they ate food like donuts, biscuits and gravy, milk and apples. Did you know that there was an assistant cook who had to know how to butcher. The cook must start working at 2:00 a.m. everyday. They all get payed $1.00 a day.

Orlando, Caiden, Norman, Josh at the Granary

At the Granary

This is the grain elevator.

At the Granary it stores all the grain. There is an elevator, there is a trapdoor that leads to the elevator too. Trap doors are over the basement so a wagon can come over the doors. Doors open on both sides so that a wagon can come threw drop off a load of grain or corn and go threw the other side. Kids work in the granary. They worked on the top floor pushing the grain to the side of the building.
This is the trap door in the floor.

Collecting Wool

Collecting the wool is an important job because if they don't the sheep could die. The sheep could die because of the summer heat gets too hot for them. The wool has a waxy feel because the sheep produce lanolin. They sheer the sheep in the spring so its not to hot or cold. In order to make money they have to spin the wool into thread and clothing then sell it.

Washing The Wool

This is while washing the wool.
This is the wool after it was washed.
Cleaning the wool at the granary is a very, very important job. The cleaning takes a long time because they wash the wool a lot. Washing the wool is a job that the kids do. It's very important that you wash it in cold water and that you use soap. You cannot wash it in warm or hot water because it will ruin the wool.

Day's on the pioneer farm

Mr. and Mrs. Buckley traveled from New York to Indiana in
wagon.  2 oxen would pull the wagon. What they brought was a axe, musket, dishes, silverware, mom and dads rocking chair and bed, basket, cast iron pot, seeds, few clothes, blankets, knives, bow an arrows and candles.

What the pioneers would is build there house first. They would cut down trees for lumber. They would stuff there mattress once a year. The kids slept in the loft of the house. They would grow and cut straw to make mattress.

How the Pioneers would make cornmeal is first to grow the corn. Then they would pull the corn and bring it to the house. Then they would take it and grind the corn with a rock. The corn would turn into powder. They would gather all the ingredients. Then they would mix ingredients and pour it in a bowl and cook it.

Everyday the children would have to do chores. It would take them 8 minutes to get to the creek and it would take em 10 minutes to get back. So that means 18 minutes total but he kids would have to do that 4 times a day so it takes 1hour and 12 minutes out of there day.  They had to collect the water in buckets.
